Trends is a song that reflects how
new trends come and go, but God's
word will never pass.
The chorus says:
The times keep changing and
new things will come and then they will go,
but there's one thing that doesn't
change and you should know.
God's Word is the same, yesterday and today.
God's Word doesn't change,
it's the truth every day.
God's Word is here, as it always has;
it will never pass.
Mark 13:31- Heaven and earth will pass away,
but my words will never pass away.
Isaiah 40:8- The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.
1 Peter 1:24-25- For, "All people are like grass, and
all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass
withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of the Lord
Psalm 18:30- As for God, His way is perfect:
The Lord's word is flawless; He shields all
who take refuge in Him.
Hebrews 4:12- For the word of God is alive
and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and
attitudes of the heart.
John 1:1- In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Absolutely Nothing is almost literally written from
Romans 8:31-39. I used the translation of the bible
called The Message, which is more conversational,
as well as the New International Version. The song
is about the unconditional love of God, that lets absolutely
nothing come between Him and His children.
Romans 8:31 NIV- What, then, shall we say in response to
these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:35 The Message- Do you think anyone is going to
be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ's love for us?
There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred,
not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing,
not even the worst sins listed in Scripture...
Romans 8:37 NIV- No, in all these things we are more than
conquerors through Him who loved us.
Romans 8:38 The Message- I'm absolutely convinced that nothing-
nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow,
high or low, thinkable or unthinkable- absolutely nothing can get
between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our
Master has embraced us.
Joshua 1:5- No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your
life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor
Think On These Things
The Apostle Paul's short letter to The Philippians is full of advice
and encouragement for us even today. Human weakness and
shortcomings haven't changed all that much since he wrote that
letter and we would do good to heed his advice. In this song I list
his recommended things to think about.
Philippians 4:4-6- Rejoice in the Lord always.
I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all.
The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every
situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
request to to God.
Philippians 4:8- Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true,
whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- If anything is
excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.
Philippians 4:9- Whatever you have learned or received
or heard from me, or seen in me- put it into practice.
And the God of peace will be with you.
By the sound of it, I get the impression
that some people think when they become
Jesus followers, they will be shielded from
all bad things. So they often ask, "Why do
bad things happen to good people?" They
should be reminded how the majority of
Jesus' disciples died! Jesus is not a good
luck charm! Pastor's sometimes say that
Jesus is not a genie in a bottle. In that spirit,
I wrote the song, He's Not; pointing out first,
what this Christian life is, then contrasting it
with what Jesus isn't.
Matthew 11:30- For my yoke is easy and
my burden is light."
John 16:33-...In this world you will have
trouble, but take heart! I have overcome
Job 5:7- Yet man is born to trouble as
surely as sparks fly upward.
Habakkuk 3:17-18- Though the fig tree
does not bud and there are no grapes on
the vines, though the olive crop fails and
the fields produce no food, though there
are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in
the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I
will be joyful in God my Savior.
Philippians 4:12- I know what it is to be
in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
I have learned the secret of being content
in any and every situation, whether well fed
or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
I can do all this through him who gives me
If I Don't Have Love
When we think of Love, oftentimes it's in
the context of romance; even though, we
use the word "love" for saying we "like" just
about anything. The book of 1 Corinthians,
chapter 13, talks about love in a much more
meaningful way; relevant to all our relationships.
In the line of the biblical verses that say
God is Love (1 John 4:8,16) this examination of
love shows some of God's attributes.
This song is light-hearted, but deep in meaning.
If we don't have God's real love, we cannot give
real love to others. Ultimately, love is what makes
life worth living; first, God's love, then our family
and relationships. Material things won't fill or fulfill
us. We have to take care of the things we own; they
don't take care of us.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3- If I speak in the
tongues of men or of angels, but do
not have love, I am only a resounding
gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the
gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries
and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that
can move mountains, but do not have love,
I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the
poor and give over my body to hardship
that I may boast, but do not have love,
I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7- Love is patient,
love is kind. It does not envy, it does
not boast, it is not proud. It does not
dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no
record of wrongs. Love does not delight
in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always
protects, always trusts, always hopes,
***This is what we should strive for in loving not just our spouses, children, siblings, parents and friends, but also our neighbors and even our enemies.***
The Fruit Of The Spirit
The Bible book of Galatians, is based on
a letter the Apostle Paul wrote to the churches
in Galatia. In chapter 5, he advises them to
not allow their flesh to lead them, but instead
to walk in the spirit. He goes on to list the acts
of the flesh, and then lists the fruit of the spirit.
In this song, I write about what we are in Spirit
because of Jesus, and how the Holy Spirit works
in us to reach maturity and give forth this Fruit
in our day to day lives.
Galatians 5:22- But the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self-control. Against such things there is
Romans 12:2- Do not conform to the pattern
of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able
to test and approve what God's will is- His good,
pleasing and perfect will.
It's quite easy to look at the world's events
and think we are nearing the end of times.
Prophesies mention natural disasters and evil
acts on the rise. We also hear people asking,
"Where is God?" when bad things happen to
good people. I wrote the song Trust as a way
to reply. We may mistakenly feel entitled to a
life protected from hardship here on earth, but
those promises are reserved for our afterlife. We
have to trust that God's will is for our good, even
if it means our lives are sacrificed; after all, as the
Apostle Paul says, "to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21)
because we get to go home to heaven.
Of course, I still pray for protection against danger,
evil, and illness for my family and for myself. We are
to ask, seek and knock (Matthew 7:7-8), and our God
will listen, but he also has the number of our days
counted, so though we want and ask, we should do as
Jesus did and say "yet not my will, but yours be done"
Psalm 84:12- Lord Almighty, Blessed is the
one who trusts in you.
Psalm 56:3- When I am afraid, I put my trust
Psalm 37:3- Trust in the and do good; dwell in
the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Psalm 31:14-15- But I trust in you, Lord;
I say, "You are my God." My times are in your
hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
from those who pursue me.
I Have It All
The song, I Have It All, is pure joy and
celebration. It says we are complete in
Jesus Christ and call out to his lost sheep
to come back to the fold. The Apostle Paul
often began his letters with the salutation
of "Grace and Peace" to his brothers in Christ
and he mentions in 1 Corinthians 13:13, that
"these three remain; faith, hope and love." The
joy of the Lord is also given to us, as in Isaiah 9:3-
"You have enlarged the nation and increased their
joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at
the harvest...". The bridge in the song lists these
gifts to us: Grace, Peace, Love, Faith, Hope, and
Joy. To have these blessings in my life makes me
feel like, indeed, I have it all; all I need!
Colossians 2:10- and in Christ you have been
brought to fullness.
John 8:32- Then you will know the truth, and
the truth will set you free.
Isaiah 53:6- We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord
has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Ephesians 2:8- For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God-
John 14:27- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your
hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Jeremiah 31:3- The Lord appeared to us in the past,
saying: " I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
1 Peter 1:8-9- Though you have not seen him,
you love him; and even though you do not see
him now, you believe in him and are filled with
an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are
receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation
of your souls.
1 Peter 1:3- Praise be to the God and Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us
new birth into a living hope through the resurrection
of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Matthew 5:13- You are the salt of the earth.
Matthew 5:14- You are the light of the world.
Matthew 5:16- In the same way, let your light
shine before others, that they may see your good
deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
I read, Jesus Today, by Sarah Young, every
morning in my quiet time with the Lord. It is
in this style of God talking to us, that I wrote
Zephaniah 3:17 says, The Lord your God is with
you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take
great delight in you; in his love he will no longer
rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.
Know Me, is what I imagine God would sing to his
lost or distracted children.
Matthew 11:28-29- Come to me, all you who
are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am
gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for
Matthew 4:19- "Come, follow me," Jesus said,
and I will send you out to fish for people."
Psalm 9:10- Those who know your name trust
in you, for you , Lord, have never forsaken those
who seek you.
Psalm 139:13- For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
Isaiah 64:8- Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter; we are
all the work of your hand.
Romans 9:21- Does not the potter have the right
to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery
for special purposes and some for common use?
Psalm 23:1-2- The Lord is my shepherd, I lack
nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he lead me beside quiet waters,
Micah 6:8- He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly
and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and

the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the
Lord himself, is my strength and my defense;

James 4:10- Humble yourselves before the
Lord, and he will lift you up.
Mark 14:62- "I Am," said Jesus. "And you
will see the Son of Man sitting at the right
hand of the Mighty One and coming on the
clouds of heaven."
1 Peter 1:19- but with the precious blood
of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
John 10:14- I Am the good shepherd; I know
my sheep and my sheep know me-
Like A Mist
I think sometimes we all assume if we maintain
a healthy lifestyle, we can live to a ripe old age.
My pastor once said, it seemed as if Christians
didn't want to go to heaven, because they did
whatever it took to live longer and not die.
King David asked God to remind him how brief and
fleeting his time on earth would be (Psalm 39:4).
In the book of James, it also says that we shouldn't
just make our plans, without saying, "If it's the Lord's will".
I wrote this song in reference to that verse. Let's not
waste time in foolish living, rather let's get to using our
skills for the Lord's purpose, and doing our work as if for
the Lord (Colossians 3:23).
James 4:13-15- Now listen, you who say,
"Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that
city, spend a year there, carry on business and
make money." Why, you do not even know what
will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are
a mist that appears for a little while and then
vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the
Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."
Luke 2:49- And He said to them, "why did you
seek me? Did you not know that I must be about
My Father's business?
Revelation 19:9- Then the angel said to me,
"Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to
the wedding supper of the Lamb!" And he added,
"These are the true words of God."
